I’m still a bit of a newbie when it comes to journaling as I only started doing it regularly and with intention in September 2021. It’s been a great addition to my morning routine and I want to share with you how I’ve benefitted from it, in case you’d like to give it a try as well.
My journaling routine includes thinking about one big goal for the day. Well, it doesn’t have to be a big goal, it just has to be significant. I also write down what I’ll do to accomplish it and what the impact is of getting it done.
A reflection on the past 7 days is included in my daily habit, answering simple questions like ‘what did I do well’ or ‘where did I act in accordance to my values’.
I use the “Dran Bleiben” Journal, a German journal with pages that are populated with questions and sections. I LOVE this journal, because it also includes a really strong introduction section and workbook where you do a bit of prep work and reflect on your core values, your guiding principles to live by and you set goals and timeframes for the months and year ahead.
There are many different journals out there and you could also quite easily start with a blank notebook and dedicate a page to each day. Get some inspiration from journals out there and create questions or sections for each day so it’s easier to jot down your thoughts in the morning.
Find a way to make journaling part of your routine. For me it’s the first task of the day, after waking up, while drinking a bottle of water and BEFORE I go downstairs to let Maggie out of her crate.
Journaling on a daily basis has been a great way for me to set an intention for the day, to focus on what’s important and to reduce any anxiety or feelings of overwhelm when life throws stuff at me.
I invite you to share your journaling experiences or questions about journaling here with me.
