Your personal brand can open doors to new opportunities, helps you make connections with great people and is how others know you before they meet you in real life.
Maintaining your personal brand consistently requires a bit of effort so today I want to share one simple thing you can do that takes 30 minutes or less and can have a big positive impact.
And that is…. Updating your LinkedIn profile.
You didn’t think it would be this simple, did you?
Step 1: Update the page.
Go to your profile on LinkedIn and check whether your title and employer are correct. If not, make those updates.
Step 2: Provide details for each of your jobs.
Describe the work you do in your own words. This doesn’t mean copying and pasting your job description, but sharing what you do and the impact you have. Include numbers if relevant.
Step 3: Add featured content (if you like).
If you’ve written a great blog post, published a book, have a YouTube channel or an online portfolio of your work, showcase this in the featured section so others can find it.
That’s it. Nice and simple.
If you want to go further, add projects, publications, volunteering, certifications and join groups that interest you, so your profile becomes a full reflection of you as a professional with some personality sprinkled into it.
If you simply follow the three steps I described above, you’ll have a nice tidy profile to refer people to and they can get a good impression of what you do.
Lastly, yes, this is relevant even if you’re not looking for a job. Many of us have returned to in-person events and conferences and it’s time to meet people and build your network. The best way to make a good second impression is by having a strong LinkedIn profile for people to find :-).
Have a great week!
